Villa La Tana, overlooking the Arno River towards Florence, is arguably the best villa outside the City available for sale. Stunning gable staircase, frescoed ceilings, wellness center and elegant gardens combined with all modern amenities.
This beautiful Villa Medici was bought by the Grand Duke Francesco de' Medici I de' Medici (1570) and presented to his beloved Bianca Cappello, whom he later married. After their demise, the villa was acquired by the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital. Although the property was not used as a hospital, the villa, more than 30 farmhouses and several hundred hectares of land were used for the production of wine, olive oil and other food products that were sold in the city.
In 1631 the property was bought by Baron Leon Francesco Pasquale Ricasoli, and in 1700 the Arch. Giulio Foggini, who is also the architect who created the tomb of Galileo Galilei in the Basilica of Santa Croce.
Later, in the arch of the 19th century. Poggi (who removed the walls around Florence to prepare the city for becoming the capital of Italy, and also built Michelangelo's Viale) built a winding driveway and compiled a description of the villa.
